Since arriving in Goa in 2020, I have been able to quickly determine what social support is really sustainable and meaningful by observing the seasonal needs of street dogs and cats, as well as by interacting with the locals.
Feeding animals indiscriminately without naturally limiting the population makes little sense in the long run.
Fortunately, the Indian government has a sponsored animal welfare command! But only for street dogs. At least! They are very helpful and take care of injuries and sterilisation of affected dogs.
For affected street cats I am working successfully with WVS in Assago (https://wvs.org.uk/).
Furthermore, I have a good cooperation with local families who are willing to shelter street cats and, if necessary, support them with medication. From my side, we take care of food, sterilisation and, if necessary, operations after accidents.
In individual cases, I take in injured street cats at our home until they find their way outdoors again.
The aim of our social project is to keep the population of street animals limited and that they have a good and healthy life, with the happy cooperation and responsibility of the locals!
